Problems the customer had
With this recent job, our customer explained that they currently had both vertical blinds and curtains installed in their property. Whilst this method of heat control does work, it means that every time the sun comes out you have to draw both the curtains and the blinds which can be a nuisance. Let alone the fact that it spoils the view looking out from your window!
The customer wanted to explore other methods in which they could achieve daytime privacy, heat reduction and fade reduction. We also later looked at refreshing the window dressings for a more modern feel.
Solution that we provided
Window film seemed like the perfect solution. A non-intrusive way of keeping out the sun’s rays, whilst also adding a layer of privacy to the window. Here are the stages that we went through during this installation:
Stage 1 – Installing Solar Gard Sterling 40 internal window films
In order to achieve daytime privacy, a reduction in solar heat gain, and to prevent the sun from fading furniture to the front of the property, Solar Gard window films were installed.
The window glass in the bathroom also didn’t give enough privacy at night time so we added an etched window film to this glass.
Stage 2 – Refreshing window dressings in the kitchen and lounge
We took the time to speak with our customer, to get a deeper understanding of what blinds to install in the kitchen and lounge. The Vision/Duo roller blinds were the favourite, but for ease of operation we suggested making these battery electric using Somfy lithium motors. This means that the blinds can be start/stop operated easily, via a 7 day timer.
As an added extra, we included a remote plug so that the 7 day timer can be multifunctional. Meaning that the customer can now turn on a table lamp at the same time as closing the blinds. Magic!
One of the main benefits of motorised blinds is home security. With the ability to open and close your blinds on a timer, your home can look occupied even when you are away on holiday. Of course they also provide better heat retention in winter too, which means you can relax in your lounge without being freezing cold.
Stage 3 – Refreshing the bedroom window dressings
The final part of this installation was to refresh the bedroom window dressings. Vision blinds were added to both the master bedroom and the spare bedroom which not only provided the privacy that the customer wanted, but also looked smart from outside the home looking in.
For ease of use, the blinds in the master bedroom were electrically operated and linked into the 7 day timer. We also linked them to a single channel remote so that the bedroom blinds could be operated separately if required. The blind in the spare bedroom was chain operated, but fitted with a tube size that would allow for easy installation of a motor at a later date if the customer changed their mind.
The customer was extremely happy with their new window film and blind installation, and loved the fact that they no longer had issues with the low winter sun, or a sauna to come home to in the summer. Here is a testimonial that they kindly provided:
Over the past few years, Mark has totally changed the appearance and functionality of my windows. No more fading carpets and furniture; enhanced privacy throughout the house. We now have beautifully dressed windows with automated Vision blinds. Mark has sorted it all, absolutely brilliant.
