Pros & Cons of Vertical Blinds
Pros
- Narrow head rails can help in close fitting locations such as inward opening doors or windows
- Can get coverage tighter into corners such as bays
- Wide selection of fabrics
- Can give flexible light management and multi directional privacy
- Multiple draw options LH or RH or Centre Split separately or together
- Can be used on shaped windows
- Some fabrics can be machine washed
Cons
- Lots of moving parts make this system fragile and easy to damage if not used carefully so not ideal in Schools or where open to abuse
- Often get tangled and snag window handles or furniture
- Vanes often vibrate or flap in breezes
- Vanes often end up outside the property when windows are open
- Unless bottom weights are chain-less they are not child safe
- Not fully black out or insulating due to so many gaps
- Can’t make use of window sills as they are sideways drawing
- Don’t fully retract allowing 100% of window to be retained because they gather
- Difficult to vacuum or mop around on full drop window or doors and can get damaged or stained
- Over time as they degrade more quickly from sun and heat damage often cause the bottom weights to fall out the fabric pockets and plastic components to fail as they degrade and become brittle
- When used for glare reduction you often have to close the blind fully to get required coverage
- Have a commercial office look which can make domestic properties look undesirable and dated
- Can’t easily be motorised at a later date.
